What Our Guests Say
Really good cooking class! We had a pickup with driver arranged by them, the driver was really kind. Trip to the market was also nice, we were able to try out some fruits we weren’t familiar with. Chef Putu was really good and explained everything very well. Lots of dishes and all very tasty. We left full & happy

This was a truly an amazing experience from start to finish. We booked for the vegan option. Our driver Tata was friendly and knowledgeable. He took us through the markets and explained some of the ingredients we were going to be using. We also got to taste some local fruits and snacks. We also stopped at a rice field where he explained the farming process and were able to take some photos. When we arrived at the cooking class we were given cold water and a welcome drink. Our cooking teacher Yogi was funny and got everyone involved. The food we made was absolutely delicious. We made so much were were not able to finish it but were able to take it. Also the ladies who were helping to cook and clean up were lovely and so efficient. We highly recommend going and will tell all our friends back in Australia

A Heartwarming, Hands-On Cultural Experience – Highly Recommended! Our time at the Subak Balinese Cooking Class was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Ubud! From the very beginning, the experience was welcoming, authentic, and full of joy. It’s much more than just a cooking class — it’s a deep dive into Balinese culture and hospitality. We started with a visit to a traditional local market (if you choose the morning session), where we learned about the fresh spices, herbs, and vegetables used in Balinese cuisine. The hosts explained everything with such passion and patience, and we were encouraged to ask questions and taste ingredients along the way. Back at the cooking compound, the setting was beautiful — a traditional Balinese kitchen surrounded by lush gardens and rice paddies. Everything was well-organized and clean. Each participant had their own station, and we worked together to prepare several delicious dishes including satay, peanut sauce, gado-gado, chicken curry, and a tasty banana dessert. Vegetarian options were also available, which was a big plus. The instructors were incredibly warm and engaging — they made the whole class fun and interactive. We didn’t just follow recipes; we learned the why behind the ingredients and cooking methods. Their humor and storytelling made us feel like part of their family. At the end, we all sat down to enjoy the meal we prepared — and it was absolutely delicious. We even received a printed recipe book to take home, which was a lovely touch. If you’re visiting Bali and want to do something meaningful, hands-on, and full of flavor, I can’t recommend Subak Balinese Cooking Class enough. It’s a beautiful blend of food, culture, and heartfelt hospitality.

Discovering the simple secrets to Balinese cooking through fresh, local herbs and spices is a treat not to be missed. Rather than starting in the kitchen, you are transported to the morning local food markets in Tampaksiring to discover and taste the different and exotic fruit and vegetables. It’s then onto the sun-drenched peace of the rice paddies that stretch out on both sides of the road where you learn about rice cultivation in Bali. We then transformed these ingredients into an authentic Balinese feast under the guidance of our knowledgeable yet light hearted guide Yogi. We left satiated and inspired to do more cooking with aromatic ingredients such as ginger, lemongrass and lime. One not to be missed.

Absolutely recommend the experience. We cooked 9 Balinese traditional dishes. There were multiple guides if we had any questions. We learned a lot about Balinese cuisine. Our guide also brought us to the local market and talked us through the ingredients. Our teacher was very funny guy. 10/10 experience. You can eat what you cook afterwards.
